The Rhythm of Heritage: My Folk Dance Project

Hungarian folk dance has a rhythm that gets under your skin, and it is a massive part of my life’s story. For seven beautiful years, my husband and I danced together, immersing ourselves in the incredible energy, footwork, and rich traditions of Hungarian folklore. While these days you are more likely to find me behind the camera than on the dance floor—except for the occasional táncház (folk dance house) where we still can’t resist joining in—that deep-rooted passion has never left me. Instead, it naturally evolved into my “Folk Dance Project.”

Hungarian folk dance is not just one style; it is a breathtakingly vast treasury of distinct regional cultures. From the fiery, intricate steps of Transylvania to the elegant turns of the Great Hungarian Plain, every single region boasts its own completely unique dances, music, tempos, and stunningly detailed traditional costumes.

Because I have spent years on the dance floor myself, I know exactly when the peak moment of a turn happens, when the tension rises, and when the dust flies off the stage. Through this project, I use my lens to freeze those powerful, dynamic movements and preserve the living spirit of our heritage, capturing the authentic essence of a tradition that continues to move generations.
